Extreme Exposure ITeam Series Book 1 Pamela Clare 9780425206331 Books

Pamela Clare is an excellent, talented writer. I thoroughly enjoyed every one of her novels in this series. It is wonderful to read a series about investigative journalists with such well-drawn, complex characters. And stories whose plots are character-driven! I highly recommend her series and this novel, which is a stand-alone, along with each of the rest in the series. I would recommend starting with the first book in the series, as the I-Team work together and their stories are somewhat intertwined. However, I didn't take my own advice and still enjoyed each novel, reading far into the night to finish them.

I read this genre both for pleasure, and to help manage chronic pain symptoms. I've consumed approximately 3-4 novels per week, for 12 years, so I know the field well. Pamela Clare stands among the best in her field. You can trust your investment of time, energy and money in her work.

Extreme Exposure ITeam Series Book 1 Pamela Clare 9780425206331 Books Reviews

Very well-written (hot/erotic) love scenes—well placed and varied. Great suspense and story-telling. Developed, believable characters, including a wonderful hero and likable, intelligent heroine. Clues to the hidden villain (there are several, others more obvious) sprinkled in lightly so the reveal shouldn’t be a big surprise. Suspense well developed and played out. Not a lot of excessive details. The only thing that bugged me were some repeated words (within a sentence or paragraph), but that’s just a thing I have.
This is actually probably more of a 3.5 stars. Story is about Reece a Senator and Kara a top investigative reporter. She is raising her son, Connor, alone because Connor has a deadbeat dad who wants nothing to do with them. She is focused on her career and Connor and isn't interested in dating. Kara gets drunk at a bar and runs into Reece who she has interviewed before. Her friend ditches her on purpose so Reece takes her home. She hits on him but he declines since she is drunk but later calls to ask her out and they start dating. Meanwhile Kara is investigating a story about illegal dumping of hazardous materials and she starts to get death threats. It was a good story but it didn't grab me and hold my attention. It took me about 4 days to finish the book which is a long time for me. I didn't have any trouble putting in down for the night. The characters were interesting (Although Kara had a TSTL moment). Reece was quiet frankly just too perfect. He had everything going for him. Moral, gorgeous, upright politician with an endless amount of patience and oh yeah he cooks like a gourmet chief and gives foot rubs. So overall, I liked the book but there was just something missing for me.
This book follows an investigative reporter who is approached by a whistle-blower that uncovers a big environmental cover up. The story, a la Erin Brockovich, is predictable but well written. It was slow to develop and only mildly suspenseful, but it still entertained me.

The book failed in the romance department. I didn't feel this couple at all. Kara is a single mom working at the Denver Independent. She's smart and good at her job. She takes care of herself and her son. Despite the fact that she often puts her job before her son, she is a loving mom. Reese is a Colorado senator. He became a politician to make a difference and is very handsome, smart, caring, strong, and can build cabins. His character was as unrealistic as it gets.

Moving on to the relationship aspect, I'm still not quite sure what attracted Reese to Kara during the couple's first encounter. Her behavior was less than attractive. From there, the book barely gives the couple time to get to know each other before they're off on a trip. It gets better past the middle of the book, but I hope you get what I mean when I say - I just wasn't into this couple.

I rate this book 3 stars.

Great story! A fantastic introduction to a new series of heroes and heroines at the Denver Independent newspaper. Who'd think reading about investigative journalists would be so addictive?

This first book pairs an unlikely duo - Kara, an investigative reporter and Reece, a State Senator. After being approached by a whistle-blower, hard-working I-Team member and single mother Kara finds herself in the middle of a story where her reporting can make a difference - or it could cost her her life.

Enter Reece Sheridan, the sexy-as-hell State Senator that seems to want to help, even though he may or may not be involved in a cover-up.

This one kept me up late, and several times had me checking to see if I'd locked the door! Double-check your doors and give this one a read. It's got great tension throughout and a satisfying ending.
